Scofflaw

Whiskey based, shaken, served in a coupe.

Invented at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in 1924, the week the word scofflaw was coined for people who drank through Prohibition.

Ingredients

Rye whiskey45 ml (1½ oz)
Dry vermouth30 ml (1 oz)
Lemon juice15 ml (½ oz)
Grenadine15 ml (½ oz)
Orange bitters2 dashes

Measures for one serve. Open the drink in Bar Bible to scale it to a batch or switch to ounces.

Method

  1. Add everything to a shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. Garnish with lemon peel.
