Dawa

The Dawa is a muddled vodka cocktail from Kenya. It is made with vodka and raw honey, served in a rocks glass over crushed ice.

Kenya’s national cocktail, from the Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi. Dawa means medicine in Swahili.

Ingredients

Lime wedges4 wedges
Sugar2 teaspoons
Vodka60 ml (2 oz)
Raw honey1 teaspoon

Measures for one serve. Open the drink in Bar Bible to scale it to a batch or switch to ounces.

Method

  1. Muddle the lime wedges gently with the sugar, without crushing the bitterness out of the peel.
  2. Fill with crushed ice and pour over the vodka.
  3. Dip a stirring stick in honey and stir it through. The honey is the finish, not the sweetener, so go lightly.
